THE WHOLE CLINICIAN
Modern research,
Centuries of ritual –
Integrated to elevate our lives
as medical professionals.Built to help you bloom into a wise leader.Built to help you find this work a calling and not a burden.
You didn't go into medicine to survive it.Somewhere along the way — between the pages, the overnight admissions, the patients you couldn't save and the ones you barely had time to sit with — the calling can start to feel like the thing that's wearing you down. The Whole Physician is a small, quiet program for physician residents who are still showing up, still doing the work well, and still feel something underneath the fatigue worth protecting. It isn't therapy, and it isn't another lecture on wellness. It's six months of short, real contact with a guide who has spent decades doing exactly this kind of work — built to fit inside a schedule that never fully lets go.
About The Program
What This Is
The Whole Physician is a six-month, small-group program for physician residents practicing in Connecticut. It draws on the peer-reviewed work of Kristin Neff, PhD, and Chris Germer, PhD on self-compassion, alongside the teachings of Pema Chödrön, the 14th Dalai Lama, and other renowned practitioners — research and ritual, held together, in service of one goal: helping you meet your own workday with more steadiness and less self-abandonment.There is no lecture. No grades. No live class to schedule around. Everything happens asynchronously — via text and voice message, sent and received when your day allows it — so the program moves at the pace of a residency, not the other way around.
How It Works
Small group. No more than 6 residents per cohort — small enough that this stays personal. All medical residents, speaking via a HIPAA compliant platform, and using best practices to keep health information confidential, and also providing community support as we grow into professionals that take care of ourselves as well as others.Asynchronous. The guide will offer a teaching via text and short audio, for you to take in, experience, and respond whenever your schedule allows. Nothing to log into at a set time.Low demand. No preparation, no busy work, no grading. This is a resource that flows in and out of your life as needed.Six sessions. Each month has a theme that feeds into the next. A teaching, then an opportunity for you to practice, reflect and share. To listen and be listened to by the group - six times over six months.
A guide, not a lecturer. Your facilitator offers short, digestible reflections and holds space for what comes up — without advice-giving or back-and-forth debate.
Why This Works
This isn't a new idea dressed up — it's grounded in a growing body of research on physician burnout. A UCLA-led randomized trial found that small-group coaching for physicians reduced burnout by nearly 30%, outperforming one-on-one coaching. Separately, a University of Colorado program for resident physicians using group coaching and self-compassion practices over a six-month period significantly reduced emotional exhaustion and imposter syndrome while increasing self-compassion.The Whole Clinician draws on this same evidence base — small, consistent group contact grounded in self-compassion research — though this specific program has not itself been the subject of a clinical trial.
Why Winter
Sessions are timed to the six coldest of the year — a season when the world naturally asks less of us socially, when the nights are long enough for a quieter voice to be heard, and when a program built around reflection has room to actually land. This year’s cohort begins November 2026 and concludes April 2027.
THE SIX SESSIONS
1. Skillfully ending the shift
2. Evidence-based self-compassion
3. Making your time off restorative
4. Naming it, without becoming it
5. The art of listening
6. When discernment turns on you

Who This is For
This program was built for medical residents who:• Feel called to this work — and still have feelings about it
• Sometimes feel drained by the end of the day
• Are afraid of burning out, even if they haven't yet
• Want to move through the workday with more grace and less bracingIf that sounds familiar, you are exactly who this was built for.
Who This Isn't For
This is not therapy, and it is not a substitute for therapy. The Whole Clinician is not designed for, and is not appropriate for, residents currently navigating active addiction, psychosis, or trauma that is interfering with daily functioning. If that describes where you are right now, please reach out to your program's employee assistance resources or a licensed mental health provider — you deserve support built for exactly that, and we'd rather you get the appropriate care than ask this program to be something it isn't.If you're currently in treatment for a mental health or substance use concern and it's stable and well-supported, this program is often a good fit alongside that care. We'll talk through fit together before you begin.
Your Guide
Whitney Lascaux, Family Nurse Practitioner, with 30 years of meditation practice and 25 years working in healthcare.Whitney has spent a career exploring the exact tension this program addresses — the space between wanting to give everything to patients and needing enough left over to keep doing the work for decades, not just this year.

Cost and Work-Study Access
The program fee generally falls between $490 and $1,100, based on what's sustainable for you. There's no form to fill out and no need to justify anything in writing — we'll find the right number together, privately, during your screening call. We're happy to provide an itemized receipt if you'd like to explore reimbursement through a wellness benefit of your program.A merit-based alternative to payment is available for those interested, and we're glad to talk through it with you directly and privately.

Before You Apply
The Whole Clinician works because it stays small and because everyone in it is a genuine fit. After you submit the form below, you'll be invited to a short conversation — about 15–20 minutes, by phone or video — so we can talk through what you're looking for and make sure this is the right kind of support for where you are right now. This isn't a test to pass. It's a conversation between two people making sure this is a good fit, in both directions.
A Note on Privacy
What's confidential: Anything shared in your teachings, check-ins, or group messages stays within the facilitator team and your cohort. It is not shared with your residency program, employer, or anyone else, except as described below. What isn't: Your facilitators will break confidentiality if you disclose an imminent risk of harm to yourself or another person, or information that triggers a legal reporting duty (for example, suspected abuse or neglect of a child or vulnerable adult). If that happens, we'll always try to loop you in on what's being reported and to whom, unless doing so would itself create danger. What we ask you not to share: Details of illicit activity that could create a reporting obligation neither of us wants to navigate mid-cohort. This program works better if the group stays a safe container, not a confessional.
